This course can be used independently or may be used in courses accessed through Reporter (the registration system for non-credit courses or training) i.e. Getting Started with Moodle: Self-Paced.

  • Module 1 Working in Wolfware and Activating Moodle: Getting Started (expand to view content)


    • Module Overview

      Wolfware is the name of the system on the web that provides access to all of our digital/online teaching tools including Moodle, Panopto (video host/creator), PlayPosit (interactive videos), and more.

      You MUST access Wolfware before you can activate Moodle and begin using it in your courses. Moodle is essentially an interactive course website that instructors design to host assignments, course content, student grades and more.

      In this module, you will review the different types of content and activities that can be added to Moodle including pages, quizzes, URLs, etc. To add any content to a Moodle course, start by turning edit mode on and selecting "Add an activity or resource."

      In this module, you will review the administrative functions in Moodle to track student attendance, record student grades, view or require completion of activities, and restrict access to activities or resources based on various conditions.   • Perusall: Interactive Reading and Text/Video Based Discussion


    • Module Overview

      Perusall is a social annotation tool that can be used with articles, websites, videos, podcasts and more. Students and instructors can add questions, comments, etc. and reply to each other. Instructors can use Perusall settings to grade student's annotations and connect the grades to the Moodle gradebook.

      Workshop Handout
      Stealth activities in Moodle are not shown to students on the main course page but can still be accessed by students through links in other locations. If you want to provide one or multiple learning activities or assessments within a resource such as a Label, Page, or NC State Book, you can streamline access to them by making them stealth and linking them or embedding them in that resource.

      An instructor will see the label "Available but not shown on course page" when something is a stealth activity --meaning that students can access and complete the activity but only where it's linked elsewhere in the course.

  • Customize Learning: Example Section #1

    This module shows examples of how to create customized learning experiences for your students using activity completion and restrict access settings. If you'd like to learn more about customizing learning for students, access this Teaching Resources page.

      Students may choose which of the following activities  to complete. At least one activity must be marked complete in order to access the Knowledge Check Quiz.

      Knowledge Check Quiz with Activity Completion Test

      This is an example of a quiz with unlimited attempts where the requirement for activity completion is for the student to "receive a grade." 

      A "Grade to pass" was set; however, any grade will allow the quiz to be marked as complete.

      If a passing grade is received, the access restriction on the next topic module is unlocked so that the student may move on in the course. 

      If a passing grade is not received, access restrictions on additional resources are unlocked for the student to review before attempting the quiz again.
